To provide underserved urban youth in the St. Louis area with opportunities for academic and personal growth through their engagement in debate programs and college readiness activities.
Program Goals and Objectives include:
1) School Partnerships: targeting underserved middle and high schools within metro St. Louis to establish debate programming;
2) Student Engagement: reaching an estimated 200 urban youth each year through meaningful, “real-world” based policy debate programming;
3) Teacher Training: providing quality professional development opportunities for teacher-coaches participating in the League so they may achieve Common Core Standards in the classroom;
4) College Access: using the skills fostered by debate to improve student GPA and ACT scores, while also utilizing partnerships with local universities to introduce students to collegiate level debate, and broader higher education opportunities.
